🎤 ~Rabbi Dr. Raphael Zarum The Academy is thrilled to have Rabbi Dr Raphael Zarum as our guest – firstly to launch his new book “Questioning Belief” on our shores, but also to join us in celebrating our 10th anniversary! While the book launch is free to attend, booking is essential. Rabbi Zarum, the Dean of London School of Jewish Studies was indispensable to the launch of the Academy along with the late Maureen Kendler z’l. It is our honour therefore to have him here again, where he will do what he does best – educate and make us think. We of the Academy believe that a good question is better than an indifferent answer. We challenge ourselves and our students to ask questions, to consider the nuance beneath the surface, and to think. We have over the years become a Community of Thinkers, questioners. As questioners then, we are thrilled to host the South African launch of Rabbi Dr. Zarum’s book “Questioning Belief.” In this original and thought-provoking work, twelve challenging questions are presented which are posed by Jewish thinkers today. These are questions about the veracity of the Torah, the morality of its laws, and the beliefs it engenders. To address these questions, Rabbi Zarum brings a wide swathe of historical, scientific, and philosophical research to bear on classical Jewish sources – with stimulating results.
