What does the Torah think about war? Does it encourage it or is it a necessary evil? Does the Torah countenance or perhaps require what Israel currently stands accused of: genocide? Are references to Amalek genocidal? From the first war recounted in the Torah through the laws given in Devarim (Deuteronomy), to the Talmud and classical thinkers and commentators, the Torah portrays a breathtakingly nuanced view.
