The Bible’s Books of Battles, Kings and Prophets in the first Jewish State.
Not for nothing is the Tanach (Hebrew Bible) known as “The Book of Books”.
Many of us hear the first parts of the Tanach – the weekly portion – every week in shul, but what happens after this? What happens when the Jewish people enter the Land of Israel to take up their destiny? While we know some of the tales, their heroes and heroines, it turns out that they constitute an exhilarating dive into many of the same issues we see in today's State of Israel.
Begin with an aerial Bird’s-Eye View of the Tanach as a whole, and learn how it changed the way the world thinks. Then we’ll continue the journey through the first books of the Prophets (Nevi’im) to discover the glory and the grit, the ups and downs embedded in this fascinating time of Jewish history – as the people wrestle with fulfilling their part in the Covenant with Hashem and setting up a Jewish State and society.
Five longer than usual sessions (up to 90 minutes) covering:
1. Tanach - a Bird’s-Eye View
2. Joshua / Yehoshua
3. Judges / Shoftim
4. Samuel / Shmuel
5. Kings / Melachim
